"Zero Holding Preservation" Quenching of Forgings

2022-11-18

During the heat treatment of forgings, due to the large power of the heating electric furnace and the long holding time, the energy consumption in the whole process is huge. For a long time, how to save energy during the heat treatment of forgings has always been a problem.

The so-called "zero heat preservation" quenching refers to the heat treatment process of quenching and cooling immediately without heat preservation after the surface and core of the forging reach the quenching heating temperature during heating. According to the traditional austenite theory, forgings must have a long holding time in the heating process to complete the nucleation and growth of austenite grains, the dissolution of residual cementite and the homogenization of austenite.

The current quenching and heating process of forgings is produced under the guidance of this theory. Compared with the current quenching process, the "zero heat preservation" quenching saves the heat preservation time required for the homogenization of the austenite structure. It can not only save energy by 20% - 30% and improve production efficiency by 20% - 30%, but also reduce or eliminate the oxidation, decarburization, deformation and other defects of forgings during the heat preservation process, which is conducive to the improvement of product quality.
