Precision forging is usually made by die forging (referred to as precision forging for short), which is a new forging process with less and no cutting, forging high precision on general or special die forging equipment. Thus, the traditional forging method is replaced, and the purpose of saving materials, improving productivity of forging factory and improving working conditions is achieved.

The process characteristics of precision forging are: precision forging can be divided into room temperature forging, medium temperature forging and high temperature forging according to the different temperature of deformed billet.

The blank of precision forging shall be calculated, and the blanking quality and accuracy shall be high. Due to closed forming of forgings, less and no oxidation heating method shall be adopted, and the room temperature forging blank shall be subject to softening (annealing) treatment before forging.

The precision forging die is usually a combined forging die, with two steps of pre forging (initial forging), precision forging (final forging) and Liangshi die. The precision of precision forging (final forging) is higher than that of forging.

Because precision forging has the remarkable advantages of saving metal and greatly reducing the working hours of cutting, for example, forgings of straight bevel gears and spiral gears with teeth do not need to be cut again after forging, and the blade body of blade precision forging does not need to be cut again.

Because precision forging strengthens all relevant links in the die forging process, the cost is increased. Therefore, precision forging is generally used for parts that are difficult to cut or time-consuming, as well as forgings that have high requirements for service performance, such as gears, worm gears, twisted blades and aviation parts.
